About
The Notre-Dame de Scourmont Abbey dates back to 1850. A group of 17 Trappist monks from Westvleteren began to clear land given to them by the Prince of Chimay. In 1862 the Chimay Brewery was created, followed in 1876 by the cheese dairy. The 'Authentic Trappist Product' logo certifies that the products have been produced in the immediate vicinity of an abbey (the beer still always within) under the control of the monastic community and that most of the income is intended for social projects.Chimay cheeses are made using milk that comes exclusively from local producers.
